Tuning

Tuning is the adjustment of the tension on the strings.  The strings are attached to tuning pins which are turned gently with a specialized wrench called a tuning hammer.  Most of the notes employ multiple strings to produce their sound.  The three or two strings for each note must be perfectly in tune with each other.  All of the notes must be in the correct relation to the other notes. And the overall pitch level of the piano must be correct in relation to other instruments, voices and recordings - the "A" above middle C, adjusted to 440 beats (or waves) per second "A440 is standard for most modern instruments.

A skilled  piano tuner uses his finely trained senses of hearing, listening, touch and feel with special tools and equipment to create a beautiful aural tapestry.
