Voicing

Many things can effect the touch and tone of a piano.  Age, wear, design factors, and even the weather can contribute to the piano's performance.

Various densities of felt are used in the manufacture of piano hammers.  Bight, crisp sounding pianos have harder felt in the hammers and warmer, darker sounding pianos have softer, more resilient felt in the hammers.

The Hardness/ softness and resilience of the felt nose of the hammer exerts a tremendous influence on the tone that is produced when it impacts the strings (wires). Correcting isolated hammers that stand out as harsher than their neighbors (especially in the melody range - notes 47 - 73) allows the voice of the piano to feel even and balanced.

Voicing is the adjustment of the tone of the piano by shaping, relaxing or even stiffening the felt of the hammers in the piano.  Voicing is done to correct the tone of a piano that has changed due to wear (become too harsh or uneven) and on new instruments it is done to please the artists tastes and preferences.

Cleaning is a service that is best done when having the piano voiced.

Key Benefits

Voicing creates an even tone from the top to the bottom of the piano.  isolated notes that are either louder, harder, softer etc. are brought into balance.
Voicing can  correct an area that is softer than the rest of the piano making it stronger, bolder and crisper.
It can correct an area that is harsher than the rest of the piano making it softer, smoother, and sweeter piano.
Voicing allows the piano to be the best it can be in reference to it's sound / tone.
